Leading Through Growth: Mark Schwartz on the Shift & Thrive Podcast

Growth is rarely just about having the right strategy. It’s about making sure people understand it, believe in it, and know how their work contributes to it.

STAT President & CEO Mark Schwartz recently joined Natalie Nathanson on the Shift & Thrive podcast to talk about the lessons he’s learned leading companies through periods of rapid growth, transformation, and acquisition.

Drawing from his experience helping build Fabrinet from the ground up and his current role leading STAT Recovery Services and The Moresby Group, Mark shares why alignment and communication are critical as companies scale.

From Strategy to Alignment

One of the central themes of the conversation is a lesson Mark learned early in his career: what’s clear to a leadership team isn’t necessarily clear to the rest of the organization.

After Fabrinet experienced tremendous early growth, the company reached a point where that growth began to slow. The issue wasn’t the business model or the market. It was alignment.

By clearly defining the company’s mission, priorities, expectations, and ways of working, the team created a shared understanding of where the business was going. Within three quarters, growth had reemerged.

That lesson continues to shape how Mark leads today.

Building the Next Chapter at STAT

Mark also discusses the evolution of STAT and The Moresby Group and how the two businesses fit into a broader vision: becoming a profitability partner to the Office of the CFO.

While STAT helps retail suppliers identify and recover revenue that may otherwise be lost through deductions, chargebacks, and other transaction discrepancies, Moresby helps large enterprises uncover procurement savings across their supplier base.

Together, the businesses are building toward a broader margin defense system, with new capabilities, shared data, and deeper intelligence designed to help companies protect profitability from both sides of the P&L.

The conversation also covers M&A integration, leadership communication, sales accountability, the importance of humility, and why CEOs need to stay close to their customers and go-to-market teams.
